Dear Dr. Neary,

I am writing to thank you for everything that you have done for my son, Michael. When Michael was diagnosed at age 3 with autism, our family was devastated. I began reading books about autism and found out about Defect Autism Now (DAN) doctors. The only pediatrician listed as a (DAN) doctor in Georgia at that time, had a 1½ year waiting list, accepted no insurance and was quite costly. I found you through the same website and made an appointment right away. After some initial testing, we began a vitamin/supplement program specifically to address Michael’s needs. We have seen huge improvements in his overall behavior. Specifically he is more focused, making more eye contact, happier and healthier. I had taken him to the pediatrician in the past complaining that his lips were always cracked and peeling, even during the summer months. His recommendation was to put a chap stick or lip balm on- almost impossibility for kids with sensory issues. This condition cleared up entirely under your care. I learned from you that his lips cracked & peeled because he was so depleted in his vitamins/nutrients. He has a healthier skin tone, the dark circles under his eyes cleared up. His therapists noticed an improvement in his focus/attention, as well as an overall improvement in his behavior. He had less tantrums and mood swings. After he began doing well in this area, we started working on improving his bowel habits. For two years, he had alternated between chronic diarrhea and constipation. This is another common symptom of children with autism. We had been to his pediatrician and a GI specialist repeatedly to seek help with this condition to no avail.  I still think back to so many times that we woke up to a mess and would have so put him in the bath and clean up. Times we would be traveling and what a nightmare that was. How could we even attempt potty training? 

It also weighed heavy on all our minds, how is he getting adequate nutrition when he is suffering this way. You suggested adjustments to help in this area. You talked about how when the spine is correctly aligned it aids in the digestion of food and your success in this area with other patients. I have to admit that my husband- not myself of course was skeptical. We began coming in once a week for treatments. We began seeing improvements after one month and decreased the visits. After three months, he finally was having normal bowel movements! Since that time, we have been able to get him potty trained. I can’t thank you enough for all you have done. We still have a long road to recovery for Michael, but with a healthy foundation which is what you have helped him obtain, that road is a lot smoother. I would also like to say that in the time we have known you, I have appreciated your knowledge, kindness, understanding, your willingness to really listen to a concerned parent and your attitude of he were mine, this is what I would do? Those are the things that make you an excellent doctor and someone that our family is so fortunate to have found!
